I am a doctoral student in the Department of English and the graduate certificate program in Visual Studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where my dissertation, currently in its early stages, addresses the relationship between humor, humorlessness, and the figure of the lesbian in twentieth-century American culture.
More broadly, I research, write and teach about a wide range twentieth- and twenty-first-century American literature, media, performance and visual culture, with particular focuses on feminist and queer cultural production, critical theories of gender and sexuality, and the genre of autobiography.
In my spare time, I enjoy snuggling my cats, making my way through a never-ending Netflix queue of canceled television shows, and searching for the perfect carnitas taco. Find me on twitter @patricianels.
